    The Local Government Authorised Persons Association (APA) in conjunction with Compliance Aware is running another comprehensive investigation workshop known as PRIME: Principles of Investigation & Management of Evidence Workshop The workshop is presented by a team of nationally qualified investigators and trainers that share almost 200 years of collective investigation experience within SAPOL.

    The two-day  hands-on workshop will lead attendees through a series of sessions aimed at providing a set of principles that will support the investigation process. The workshop has a practical focus which will require each participant to demonstrate statement taking and interviewing techniques, evidence gathering and culminating in an active court trials where participants will deliver evidence.

    A 12 month investigation support line will be provided to all participants should they require any investigation tips and strategies to assist them within their duties.

    An evaluation of the program has already been conducted and its content and overall structure has shown it to be practical and appropriate for APA members.

    Role of the investigator, The PEACE Investigation Model, The principles of statement taking, Statement taking demonstrations, Statement taking workshop,
    Chain of evidence, Use of notes, Note taking, The investigation MATRIX,

     This full-day seminar blends theory and hands-on practice, giving rangers and officers the skills and confidence to handle dogs safely and responsibly. RSPCA will be onsite providing welfare oversight to ensure all dogs are treated with care and respect.

    Morning Session – Theory (9:30 am – 12:30 pm)
    Understanding canine behaviour (safe, worried & unsafe dogs)
    Triggers for aggression, fear, and avoidance
    Stress, arousal & environmental impacts
    Legislative context: obligations & welfare considerations
    PPE, lead & muzzle protocols + welfare checks

    Afternoon Session – Practical Handling (1:15 pm – 4:00 pm)
    Safe approaches & catch techniques (leads, catch poles, muzzles)
    Dog removal & transport protocols
    Scenario practice with welfare-approved dogs & dedicated handlers
    Q&A 4:00 – 4:30 pm

    A must for rangers and officers wanting to build confidence and competency in the field!

    As we wrap up another productive year across South Australia’s local government regulatory sector, Review & Reflect 2025 offers a day of learning, connection, and forward thinking.

    This free end-of-year event brings together Authorised Persons and local government professionals to celebrate achievements, share lessons, and discuss priorities for 2026.

    It’s an opportunity to engage with industry experts, participate in hands-on sessions, and reflect on best practices across animal management, parking, compliance, and community safety.

    New Membership Structure Starts Today 

    From 1 January 2026, LGAPA will introduce a tiered membership model based on council size. Each council will pay a single annual fee that covers all Authorised Officers and Regulatory Staff, including administrative or support staff involved in compliance and enforcement roles.

    Individual membership will still be available for those not covered under a council-wide membership or who wish to maintain a personal membership. Individual members will continue to receive full benefits under the new structure.

    This new approach is designed to:

    • Increase inclusivity and access across all Local Government areas
    • Simplify membership administration and renewals
    • Align membership with LGAPA’s annual training calendar - Check out the latest offerings Training and Events
    • Provide greater value and representation for enforcement and regulatory teams
